Bill would give Vermont volunteer firefighters and EMTs protections to miss day jobs

VIDEO: Should volunteer firefighters and EMTs be able to miss work to respond to an emergency? Lawmakers from across Vermont support legislation offering protection to employees after some reported they were not allowed to leave their jobs for a 911 call. Dorieann Chesbrough is a career firefighter with the Vermont Air National Guard.

Follow in one Texas fire station's footsteps

PHOTOS: When a man went into cardiac arrest while working at his family’s restaurant a few years ago, Fire Station No. 1 responded, resuscitating him on scene. The next day he walked out of the hospital, an uncommon sight for these patients. Soon after, he was back working at his restaurant, said apparatus operator Caleb Hodges.

Two deceased in mobile home fire in Ephrata on Valentine's Day

The Ephrata Fire Department was dispatched at 11:20 p.m. on February 14, 2024, for a residential structure fire in the 500 block of D St. SE in Ephrata, Washington. A neighbor reported the home on fire across the street from her. Upon arrival fire crews observed a fully engulfed double wide mobile home.

Follow-up: Seattle fire chief details staffing struggles, response and says public safety changes are needed

VIDEO/PHOTOS: The Seattle fire chief said his department is feeling the strain of increased calls and crime in the city and has lost people from burnout as a result. In a briefing in front of the Seattle council’s public safety committee, Harold Scoggins said he’s down 125 people from a full staff and cited the increase in overdose calls, encampment fires and vacant structure responses as reasons behind it all.

Washington Department of National Resources releases new fire prevention videos

To help promote awareness and prevention of wildfires, the Washington State Department of National Resources (DNR) has released four new animated safety explainer videos. Teaming up with Next Day Animations, the DNR hopes that the videos will help reduce human-caused wildfires, as they grow larger and faster.
