Missouri firefighters make fire safety videos in honor of Fire Prevention Month

Springfield firefighters have released a series of videos in honor of Fire Prevention Month. According to the City of Springfield, the videos will be released throughout October on the Springfield Fire Department’s social media pages. Here is a list of all seven of the educational videos: Cooking Safety (by Firefighter Justine, for fourth and fifth graders); Firefighters Are Our Friends (by Firefighter Tanner, for PreK-K); Stay Away From Dangerous Things (by Firefighter Geoff, for PreK-K); Recognizing Home Hazards (by Firefighter Tanner, for first-graders); Escape Drills in the Home (by Firefighter Mark, for second-graders); How and When to Call 911 (by Firefighter Mark, for third-graders); and The Fire Triangle (by Firefighter Geoff, for fifth-graders).

Must see: 1969 documentary on Maryland volunteer firefighters

A very cool historical look at the volunteer fire service in Maryland from WMAR-TV in Baltimore. The half-hour documentary is from October 10, 1969 and has film from fire companies in a number of counties throughout the state. There is also a section on University of Maryland’s Fire Service Extension, the forerunner to Maryland Fire and Rescue Institute.

Arson investigation underway after Shoreline business targeted with Molotov cocktails

An investigation is underway to find out who damaged a Shoreline building where a new Black-owned business was supposed to open Thursday after Molotov cocktails were thrown at it early Wednesday. King County Sheriff’s Sgt. Ryan Abbott said that several incendiary devices were thrown at an outside wall where Black Coffee Northwest, located in the 16700 block of Aurora Avenue North, will operate.

Seattle: Nearly 7,000 gallons of gasoline spill from terminal at Harbor Island

A large gasoline spill Thursday morning prompted some evacuations and caused a huge traffic mess on Harbor Island Thursday morning. The spill was reported after a pump failed just before 5 a.m. at the Shell Harbor Island Petroleum Terminal, fire officials said. Firefighters shut down the area and established a 1,000-foot safety perimeter until Shell employees could reach the scene to clean up the spill.

2 seriously hurt as pickup flips, burns on U.S. 2 near Index

Two people were airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in serious condition after a crash Thursday on U.S. 2., about 3 miles west of Index. Both of those injured are males, but their ages and hometowns were unknown, Sky Valley Fire Chief Eric Andrews said. Around 12:30 p.m., a pickup truck towing a cargo trailer flipped and rolled 30 feet down an embankment.
