Cold Creek Fire near White Pass burns up to 252 acres, 5% contained

The Cold Creek Fire grew up to 252 acres and is 5 percent contained as of Thursday morning, according to the Yakima Valley Emergency Management. Officials say US-12 is currently closed, and an estimated time to open the highway is not determined. Also, the Southeast Washington Interagency Incident Management Team says night operations also noticed a large rock on the highway.

Yakima and Toppenish fire departments will help each other with emergency services

The Yakima and Toppenish fire departments are teaming up to provide emergency services. The Yakima City Council on Tuesday approved the agreement, which allows the departments to cooperatively provide emergency response within the other city’s jurisdictional boundaries. Yakima Fire Chief Aaron Markham noted at Tuesday’s council meeting that cities in Yakima County have historically helped each other with emergency response services.

Highway 12 Over White Pass Still Closed As Firefighters Battle Cold Creek Fire

Highway 12 over White Pass remains closed Wednesday as firefighters continue to battle the Cold Creek Fire that started on Monday. When the fire was discovered it was at about 60 acres. Firefighters say the fire grew to more than 100 acres overnight. The blaze burning about 6 miles from the White pass ski area jumped the highway late yesterday afternoon.

Whatcom County adds four more COVID-19 cases, as young adults see recent increase

Four more Whatcom County residents have tested positive for COVID-19, the Washington State Department of Health on Tuesday, Sept. 15, but no new related deaths were reported.
