Coronavirus cases have been rising in Illinois and many of its surrounding states this fall as health experts brace for a second wave during flu season, and while testing numbers could play a large role in the increased numbers, there's another factor that may be contributing to the spike: the return to school at colleges and universities in the Midwest.

Being a firefighter isn’t what they do, it’s who they are.

After a two-year gap, the Spokane Valley Fire Department has welcomed a new chaplain to the ranks, the Rev. Aaron McNally. McNally, an experienced chaplain, also has the distinction of being a volunteer firefighter.
McNally replaced Ken McNaughton, who founded the Inland Northwest Fire Chaplains while serving as Spokane Valley Fire’s chaplain before he retired two years ago.

Two people were injured and a driver has been arrested for DUI after a chain-reaction crash sent a car off I-5 in South Seattle Wednesday evening.
A van was heading south near Airport Way just after 6 p.m. when it suddenly hit the brakes, according to Trooper Rick Johnson with the Washington State Patrol.

South County Fire is asking voters in Lynnwood and unincorporated Snohomish County to consider approving a benefit charge that would change the way property owners pay for emergency services.
The measure – sponsored by the Regional Fire Authority (RFA) — will appear on the Nov. 3 general election ballot, which is being mailed out to voters this week.
