Following two shootings in a little more than two months, an Elizabeth City fire station is on track to get bulletproof walls.
Shots were most recently fired July 15 near the station on Harney Street, which is manned 24-hours a day. At least one round went through a wall, into its sleeping and eating areas.

The Hilton Fire Department is now training to take its rescue efforts to the clouds, with the help of drone technology. Department heads say it’s among the first in the area to bring use the drones for certain calls.
The idea was the brainchild of fifth-year firefighter David Olney, who is a trained drone pilot himself, he says it was a no-brainer, as the drones could be a real boost for the department, and the community.

A deputy and an officer are being credited with saving a mother and girl's life after they were both trapped in a burning SUV following a crash in Graham Saturday evening.
The mom was driving with her 11-year-old daughter in the backseat of their SUV around 5 p.m. when it was rear-ended at a high speed by another vehicle in the 8200 block of 224th Street East, according to Assistant Fire Chief Steve Richards with Graham Fire & Rescue.

The number of new COVID-19 cases reported on Sunday were in the single digits for the first time since March.
The Yakima Health District reported three new COVID-19 cases and no new deaths.
There are at least 11,637 confirmed cases in Yakima County, according to YHD.
17 people are hospitalized, and one is intubated, and at least 10,287 people have recovered, health officials say.

Firefighters with the state Department of Natural Resources (DNR) and local fire districts have contained a small brush fire in an area south of Rockport.
DNR crews responded shortly before 1 p.m. Friday to the fire near Illabot Creek Road east of Highway 530, said DNR spokesperson Janet Pearce.
Skagit County fire districts 10 and 19 also responded to the scene.
