Federal coronavirus 'red zone' of severe outbreaks expands to 21 total states

Florida on Tuesday hit a new statewide record high for number of coronavirus deaths reported in a single day since the pandemic began — 186 residents. And while there are signs hospitalizations may be leveling off, the virus continues to upend life there and across the country. Nearly half of all states are now part of the government's so-called "red zone" due to rising cases, including Missouri, North Dakota and Wisconsin.

Update: Suspect arrested after 2 victims die in North Seattle motel arson

A 24-year-old man has been arrested for arson in connection with a large fire at a North Seattle motel earlier this month that left two people dead and four others injured, police said. Some of the victims suffered extensive burns and some jumped from third-floor windows to escape the flames. Investigators later determined that the July 13 fire at the Hillside Motel in the 2400 block of Aurora Avenue North had been deliberately set.

Clallam County Fire District 3 reports clean state audits

Clallam County Fire District 3 has been given a financial clean bill of health from state officials. Officials announced Tuesday that the fire district has passed its 2018-19 state audits with no findings. The audits, conducted by the Office of the Washington State Auditor, included both an accountability and a financial audit.

Anglin Fire near Tonasket now at 50% containment, Level 3 evacuations lifted

The Anglin Fire burning over 1,700 acres near Tonasket is now 50 percent contained and some evacuation orders have been reduced. All Level 3 evacuations have been removed. A level 2 evacuation order remains in place for Rehmke Rd. south of Siwash Rd. and all roads connecting to Rehmke Rd. Level 1 evacuations are still in place for the Cayuse and Island Mtn.

32 confirmed COVID-19 cases reported Tuesday in Grant County

Another 32 COVID-19 cases were confirmed Tuesday in Grant County, bringing the running total of confirmed cases to 1,177 during the pandemic. Tuesday’s cases are residents of Mattawa, Moses Lake, rural Othello, Quincy and Royal City, according to the Grant County Health District. Test turnaround time for cases since Friday averaged about four days.
