Firefighters battle massive blaze in Kent wrecking yard

Several firefighters battled a fire at a wrecking yard in Kent Tuesday morning. The fire was reported around 4 a.m. in the 26100 block of 78th Avenue South, according to officials with Puget Sound Fire. Firefighters arrived to find about 30-40 junked cars on fire. "(It was a) deep-seeded fire in a stack of cars," said Capt.

Walla Walla County firefighter paramedic leads backcountry rescue operation

An outing in the Eagle Cap Wilderness turned out well for an injured hiker found and aided by Walla Walla County Fire District 4 Firefighter Paramedic Jestin Goodson, among others. More than a week ago, as Jestin and family members trekked along an overgrown trail about 5 miles from the nearest trailhead, they heard calls for help from a rocky ravine below.

'At the mercy of the land': Lack of insurance, fire district protection hurts some Okanogan Co. residents

The Palmer fire in Okanogan County is now nearly 100% contained. As of September 1, it is still actively burning in some places, but fire crews said they have it completely surrounded, and they're confident their lines will hold. At the fire's peak, more than 36 structures were lost, including some homes.

'The fire is continuing to grow as we speak'; evacuation orders expanded as wind-driven Evans Canyon wildfire grows

Evacuation orders for the Evans Canyon Fire were expanded Tuesday morning to include 57 more homes. The Level 3 (go now) evacuation was expanded around 10:30 a.m. to include all homes west of Longmire Lane and north of Naches Wenas Road in Selah, said Horace Ward, operations manager for the Yakima Valley Office of Emergency Management.

Evans Canyon Fire level 3 evacuations underway near Selah

Right now level 3 evacuations are in place for the Evans Canyon Fire burning near Selah. This fire is estimated at 2,500 acres and growing. It is threatening 125 structures, power lines, radio towers, and agricultural crops. The Evans Canyon Fire is burning in grass, brush, and light timber. Washington State Patrol Chief John Batiste authorized the mobilization of state firefighting resources on September 1, 2020, at 12:00 am, at the request of Assistant Fire Chief Jim Lange, Yakima County Fire District 2.
