With the 4th of July right around the corner, many people are gearing up to celebrate. In Roswell, however, the holiday is a painful reminder of the loss of one of their own.
Last year, a huge explosion injured 12 firefighters and left one dead as they were preparing for the city’s annual fireworks display.

VIDEO: New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio (D) announced a task force Tuesday aimed at cracking down on illegal fireworks after city residents have registered thousands of complaints.
“We have concerns about this from all over the city, this is a real problem. It is not just a quality of life problem and noise problem, and it is certainly that … but it can also be dangerous,” the mayor said Tuesday at a press conference.

Spokane police officers arrested a woman Tuesday suspected of starting a string of fires involving more than 20 burned properties all set Monday morning, according to a news release.
Police found Stephanie Register, 36, at the Spokane Transit Authority Plaza and booked her into jail on one count of second- degree arson with more charges pending.

With warm temperatures comes the anticipation of wildfire season for firefighters. They’re training differently because of the pandemic. One four-legged friend could be lending them a hoof.
Spokane Fire Chief Brian Schaeffer is looking to use goats to help prevent wildfires.
“This goat and a bunch of his buddies, a bunch of his family members will be able to reduce the fuels in areas where fire could be easily moved from one area to another and endanger homes,” Schaeffer said.

A communications outage left San Juan County Dispatch unable to hail Orcas Island Fire and Rescue personnel for several minutes during a double search and rescue effort on Mount Constitution Saturday night.
The OIFR frequency went down following a power outage while rescue crews were on the mountainside attempting to locate a total of three people lost in two separate areas.
