The Yakima and Toppenish fire departments are teaming up to provide emergency services.
The Yakima City Council on Tuesday approved the agreement, which allows the departments to cooperatively provide emergency response within the other city’s jurisdictional boundaries. Yakima Fire Chief Aaron Markham noted at Tuesday’s council meeting that cities in Yakima County have historically helped each other with emergency response services.

Highway 12 over White Pass remains closed Wednesday as firefighters continue to battle the Cold Creek Fire that started on Monday. When the fire was discovered it was at about 60 acres. Firefighters say the fire grew to more than 100 acres overnight. The blaze burning about 6 miles from the White pass ski area jumped the highway late yesterday afternoon.

Four more Whatcom County residents have tested positive for COVID-19, the Washington State Department of Health on Tuesday, Sept. 15, but no new related deaths were reported.
Whatcom County now has had 1,208 confirmed cases during the pandemic, according to state Department of Health data as of 11:59 p.

North Whidbey Fire and Rescue officials hope that voters will agree to raise property taxes modestly in order to replace aging equipment.
The objective, they say, is to protect firefighters and keep homeowners’ fire insurance premiums from going up.
The fire district is asking voters for a 15-cent levy lid lift.
