Phoenix Fire Chief Kara Kalkbrenner says emergency protective gear such as gowns and N95 masks ordered by the Phoenix Fire Department are getting “hijacked” before they ever arrive in Arizona.
Kalkbrenner’s comments came Tuesday after 12 News asked her about a photo posted on Facebook showing two Phoenix firefighters responding to a recent emergency wearing rain ponchos instead of protective gowns.

Firefighters in Clark County showed support for grocery workers at the Salmon Creek Fred Meyer store on Wednesday, rolling by employees in fire trucks with lights flashing.
The parade of engines and other fire emergency vehicles from Clark County District 6 sent the salute out to employees at 7 p.m.

Firefighters have been dealing with a number of brush fires across the far North Sound areas this week as the weather warms up and dries out.
Two separate fires were reported Wednesday evening -- the first broke out just after 5 p.m. in the 5000 block of Stanwood-Bryant Road and wind-swept flames quickly moved toward nearby SR 9, according to Snohomish County Fire Station No.

Crews responded to a fire at Cruz Custom Boots in downtown Spokane Wednesday afternoon.
Several trucks responded and smoke could be seen from the outside of the building near the corner of Main and Browne.
Fire Chief Brian Schaeffer said the call first came in at 12:05 p.m. Heavy smoke and fire was seen from the back of the building, and people were evacuating as fire crews arrived.
