Cash-strapped and empty hotels across the country are finding ways to keep the lights on by converting themselves into coronavirus wards or temporary housing for the National Guard or exhausted doctors and nurses. It provides some much needed revenue for an industry that’s been brought to its knees by the COVID-19 outbreak that’s spread to more than 1.

Man wakes up to quickly spreading house fire in Pasco

A man woke up to thick smoke inside his home but managed to escape without injury on Tuesday evening. Public Information Officer, Ben Shearer, said the fire started around 8 PM at a home near 43rd Way and Sylvester. Pasco Police arrived on scene first and found a home halfway consumed by flames. When firefighters arrived on scene they immediately began an exterior attack.

Fire burns roof, kitchen of Tacoma Denny's restaurant

An overnight fire has damaged a Denny's restaurant in Tacoma. The fire broke out just before midnight Tuesday night in the 5900 block of 6th Avenue, according to Tacoma Fire officials. Flames were visible shooting from the roof when firefighters got to the scene. It took about 30 minutes to get the fire under control to where crews were just dousing hot spots, fire officials said.

Brush fire burns two acres in Highland

Highland and other firefighters spent nearly three hours Tuesday containing a wildfire sparked by an agricultural burn. Fire crews were called at 12:12 p.m. for the fire at 1541 Pioneer Way that spread into brush, said Highland Fire Department Chief Rick Woodall. The fire burned two acres and threatened two buildings.
