Spokane Valley firefighters rescue 9-year-old after 40-foot fall down cliff in Dishman Hills area

Spokane Valley firefighters rescued a 9-year-old boy Wednesday after he fell about 40 feet down a cliff in the Dishman Hills Conservation Area. The boy was hiking with his mother when he fell near the Pond Loop Trail, according to the Spokane Valley Fire Department. Firefighters then hiked into the area carrying medical equipment for the child while another crew prepared to hoist him up the cliff on a rescue stretcher attached to an off-road vehicle, according to a news release.

Update: Body found in aftermath of historic building fire in Waterville

VIDEO: After several days of searching, authorities found the remains of a human who they believe died in a fire in Waterville last Thursday. Douglas County Sheriff’s officials believe they’ve found the body of Ray Kope, an 87-year-old man who owned the building. Kope was the person who was unaccounted for after the fire last week.

Fire destroys shop, trailer north of Washougal

A fire destroyed a camper trailer and shop north of Washougal on Wednesday morning. East County Fire & Rescue crews were dispatched at 2:13 a.m. to 31700 N.E. George Road for the report of a structure fire. The first engine arrived at the property in about 14 minutes. Its crew found a 30-foot camper trailer and an approximately 20-by-40 foot shop or outbuilding in flames, said ECFR Chief Mike Carnes.

Could a New Ultraviolet Technology Fight the Spread of Coronavirus?

A technique that zaps airborne viruses with a narrow-wavelength band of UV light shows promise for curtailing the person-to-person spread of COVID-19 in indoor public places. The technology, developed by Columbia University’s Center for Radiological Research, uses lamps that emit continuous, low doses of a particular wavelength of ultraviolent light, known as far-UVC, which can kill viruses and bacteria without harming human skin, eyes and other tissues, as is the problem with conventional UV light.
