The City of Pasco awarded meritorious service medals to three police officers and two firefighters who saved a suicidal man who tried to jump off the Cable Bridge last spring. The event unfolded on the morning of Saturday, May 4 last year. Police said a 38-year-old man was outside the railing, sitting on the edge of the bridge when they arrived on scene.

The Spokane Valley Fire Department responded to a kitchen fire near Broadway and Adams Monday morning. According to the Fire Department, a family of eight were moving in to their new house, bringing in several boxes, before leaving to go get more. An investigation later suggested that one of the boxes was left on the stove, catching fire and smoking up the house.

A large fire destroyed a West Richland home, boat and vehicle Monday morning, according to Benton County Fire District 4. Firefighters responded to a fire that started in the garage of a home on the 5600 block of W. Lattin Rd. near Keene Road at 9:41 a.m. When they arrived, the fire had overtaken the garage and spread to the home.

VIDEOS/PHOTOS: A fire chief in Scottsboro, Alabama has confirmed fatalities in a massive fire that consumed at least 35 boats docked along the Tennessee River early Monday morning. Witness Carol Fuller took video of the boat dock as it was engulfed in flames. She tells us she could hear people cry, but was frustrated that there was no way to rescue them.

The union representing full-time Yonkers firefighters is accusing the city of cutting future benefit payments for some fire officials who may retire after becoming permanently disabled while on duty. Yonkers Firefighters, Local 628, International Association of Firefighters, AFL-CIO filed a petition against Yonkers and the state Public Employment Relations Board last month.
