Spokane meteorologist is on his way to help Australian firefighting efforts

A Spokane meteorologist is on his way to Australia to lend his expertise on the bush fires that have devastated 3,000 homes and killed more than 30 people. Fire weather forecasting is nothing new to Todd Carter, who’s a meteorologist at the National Weather Service. On Saturday, he’ll be trading snow for summer, using weather data to give firefighters the upper hand.

Chelan County firefighter dies after being buried in snow that fell from roof

A Chelan County firefighter was found dead off Blewett Pass after she was buried in snow that had fallen from a roof. Chelan County Fire District 3 said Kimiko Nalle, 46, was found buried in snow when crews responded to the incident at 3:45 p.m. Thursday. Attempts to revive her were not successful.

DNR Awards $1.6 Million in Forest Restoration Grants to Forest Collaboratives in Washington

South King Fire helps local animal rescue with puppy transport

After a cross-country flight, 10 rescue puppies recently received a proper welcome home by Resilient Hearts Animal Sanctuary and South King Fire and Rescue firefighters. Resilient Hearts Animal Sanctuary is a Seattle-based nonprofit dedicated to rescuing and rehabilitating dogs in high risk situations across the country and rehoming them with forever families.

2 people killed in explosion that rocked northwest Houston

VIDEOS: Broken windows, busted garage doors, and plumes of smoke could be seen from a northwest Houston neighborhood rattled by a large building explosion. According to area residents, the explosion happened around 4:20 a.m. Friday at Watson Valve Services, which is about half a mile away from their homes on Rockcrest road and Stanford Court.
