Researchers at Washington University have found that paramedics and emergency medical technicians are seven times as likely as the general public to have thought about suicide in the past year. Five emergency medicine doctors surveyed more than 900 paramedics in Missouri, Illinois, Kentucky and Iowa over three months in 2017.

Camden city officials, union officials and its fire department will send a set of proposals to the state Civil Service Commission that they hope will, once approved, avert the need to lay off any front-line firefighters. A home in Clark County was destroyed by a fire early Monday morning. Clark County Fire & Rescue and Fire District 3 responded to the fire at 3:43 a.m. in the 10300 block of Northeast 269th Street. Crews arrived to the scene and found a one-story ranch-style home fully involved. Neighbors told crews that the home was being remodeled and no one was living there at the time of the fire.

Whenever there’s a fire, we expect firefighters as soon as possible. One local fire district says limited resources make that a lot more challenging.
