The first female firefighter for Graham Fire & Rescue retired this week after 40 years of service.
Myra Merdian started at Graham Fire & Rescue in 1979.
She has served as the department's Public Education Officer for the past 20 years, teaching fire safety to children in the Puyallup and Bethel School Districts.

Spokane firefighters put out what they believe was a cooking-related fire in a Lincoln Heights home early Saturday morning.
According to Spokane County Fire District 8, firefighters responded to the home in the 4200 block of East 28th Ave shortly after 3 a.m.
There, they found fire coming from behind the stove and extending into the attic.

Firefighters say two people were pulled from a burning apartment in Vancouver Sunday morning.
At about 8:25 a.m., firefighters were dispatched an apartment fire, located at 7531 NE 18th St., according to the Vancouver Fire Department.
Initial information provided by dispatchers was that two people were trapped inside.

One person was found dead in an apartment near the north Beacon Hill neighborhood after a fire broke out.
Seattle fire crews were called to the apartment complex in the 1400 block of Columbian Way South around 2 a.m. Friday after someone called 911 reporting there was light smoke throughout the building.

Some Sacramento city leaders up in arms over the airing of a reality television show that follows Sacramento firefighters and paramedics on the job.
A&E's "Live Rescue" features first responders in cities and towns across the country -- and the Sacramento Fire Department is one of them. The show is now in its second season.
