Fire near Parke Creek Road in Kittitas Co. in mop up stage, all evacuations lifted

A brush fire in Kittitas County burned approximately 75 acres and crews are now mopping up as of 5 p.m. on Wednesday. According to the Kittitas County Sheriff's Office, the fire was burning approximately 75 acres as of 3:05 p.m. on Wednesday. The blaze threatened ten structures. Crews have lifted all evacuations in the area and Parke Creek Road has been reopened.

Tacoma (WA) Fire Station Offering Opioid Treatment, Recovery Resources

A Tacoma Fire Department is becoming the first in the state to launch the “Safe Stations” program to deal with the opioid crisis around the clock, reports KOMO News.

 

Fire Chief Tory Green says the fire station is a “stigma free” setting where people can come if they are overwhelmed by other settings such as hospitals and treatment centers.

Tacoma deputy Mayor Conor McCarthy says the city becomes one of 39 in the country to address the opioid crisis in this fashion.

Wildland Fire Apparatus Joins Laguna Beach (CA) Fleet

Fire Department personnel and officials will push the new engine into the apparatus bay at a neighborhood wildfire evacuation and outreach event, reports Patch.com

Fire Department personnel and officials will push the new engine into the apparatus bay, "officially" placing the engine into service along with pushing the old retiring 1999 wildland engine out of service.

The community is invited to witness this ceremonial placement into service and the christening of the new engine.

Lawsuit: Washington DNR blames Avista for starting Boyd's Fire

A lawsuit filed in Ferry County Superior Court by Washington's Department of Natural Resources alleges Avista Corporation did not take care of trees and brush surrounding power lines, which ultimately led to the start of 4,000-acre wildfire that destroyed several homes. The "Boyd's Fire" started August 11, 2018 and was caused by "hazardous dead ponderosa pine tree that collapsed onto electrical lines owned, maintained and operated by Avista," according to the lawsuit.
