VIDEO: Fighting fear with firefighters - Summer camp in California helps kids with neurodevelopmental disorders

A summer camp for children with neurodevelopmental disorders features everyday superheroes who make a difference. Those heroes include firefighters, who gave children a firsthand look at their equipment and also provided safety tips at the camp, run at the University of California, Davis, MIND Institute, a research center.

Heroic uncle in Aberdeen would rush into burning house again to save niece: 'Even if I got burnt worse or died'

A young man from Aberdeen is fighting the pain of serious burns after rushing back into a burning house to save his niece. Derrick Byrd from his hospital bed said he’d do it again. The 20-year-old has 2nd and 3rd degree burns on his face, back and arms and at Harborview Medical Center after he was airlifted to the hospital after the Thursday morning fire in his home.

Man charged with murder after mobile home fire kills 4 in Port Angeles

Police have arrested a man suspected in a mobile home fire that killed four people in Washington state. Matthew Timothy Wetherington was charged with four counts of first-degree murder and one count of arson. The 34-year-old was booked into jail Saturday night. It wasn’t immediately clear if he had an attorney who could comment on his behalf.

Field fire cuts fireworks show at Clark County fairgrounds short

It just seems hard to get away from fire when you’re doing fireworks. Thursday night’s inaugural Clark County Fourth at the Fairgrounds event was a big success, drawing an estimated 6,500 people, according to Mickey Webb, CEO of the Clark County Event Center at the Fairgrounds. But the event, intended to tamp down fireworks mayhem — especially accidental fires — in Clark County neighborhoods by providing a centralized, professional pyrotechnic display, still managed to generate a little accidental conflagration of its own.
