Chehalis Public Works Director, Former Volunteer Firefighter, Retires After 37 Years

Chehalis Public Works Director Rick Sahlin started a countdown clock on his phone about six months before his scheduled date of retirement. He kept one going on the whiteboard in his office, too. Sahlin wiped the board clean on Friday after more than 37 years spent working for the City of Chehalis. Come Monday morning, his chair will be occupied by Community Development Director Trent Lougheed, who has spent the past year preparing for the change.

West Pierce firefighters gifted cases of Pepsi after rescuing pup named 'Pepsi'

The men of the West Pierce Fire and Rescue Department got a well-deserved gift Monday after rescuing a dog that was trapped after falling into a ravine. ‘Pepsi’ the black lab was stranded overnight last Monday when he fell down an embankment. Firefighters had to use a rope system to safely bring the 13-year-old dog up from the ravine.

Menomonee Falls (WI) Lacking Fire Apparatus

 
 
 

Two weeks ago, Menomonee Falls Fire Department did not have any working fire engines. During a special meeting last week, the department said it would not have enough firefighters in a couple weeks.  

Monday night, the village board approved buying a new fire truck to replace the one that was totaled in an accident last summer. It will still take six months for the new truck to arrive. Menomonee Falls currently only has three trucks for five stations.

Ridley Park (PA) Buying Fire Apparatus From Millbourne

 
 

Fire Chief Mike Eckenrode explained that the Millbourne apparatus will not replace any of the apparatus the borough company now has in operation but will extend the life of equipment already on hand. The Millbourne Fire Company went out of service several months ago and is selling off its equipment.  

In another matter, residents from an apartment building on Morton Avenue complained to council about their cars parked on the street being ticketed for violating 2-hour parking limits between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. The residents said off-street parking provided by apartment owners is not enough to accommodate all the tenants.
