On a Wednesday morningin the middle of July, class is in session at San Francisco Waldorf High School.
"So, Ha pasado antes? Has it happened before?" But, these students aren't teenagers, they're first responders, learning Spanish one phrase at a time.
"Yo soy bombero. Que tal?"
"Today is my off duty day," said Lam.

A life was saved on the Washougal River on May 4, 2019.
That sentence says it all, but says very little, too.
A life was indeed saved that day, a rescue that involved many first responders from many departments.
On Tuesday night, Clark County Fire District 6 specifically honored four individuals, while noting that others could be honored in the future by other agencies.

The Bellingham Fire Department battled a three-alarm fire throughout the night Wednesday, July 17, at Clark Feed and Seed on Railroad Avenue in downtown Bellingham. The fire also spread next door to Avalon Records.
According to the initial report on the PulsePoint app, crews responded to a commercial fire at Clark Feed and Seed at 1326 Railroad Ave.

It’s literally one of a kind, and Hadley Township Fire Chief Kurt Nass says his department’s shiny new pumper truck is the “future of firefighting” and the department is excited to show off the new vehicle.
Nast said since his department tries to get 24-25 years out of each of its vehicles. “We don’t want to order what he need right now,” said the chief, and instead they try to think of what they’ll need 10-15 years from now.
Nass believes they have it in the department’s new Spencer pumper truck built in South Haven in southwest Michigan.
In the new truck when the operator slides up the door to the pump control panel there aren’t a lot of gauges and nobs. Instead, there’s a small black computer screen.
