Man charged with murder after mobile home fire kills 4 in Port Angeles

Police have arrested a man suspected in a mobile home fire that killed four people in Washington state. Matthew Timothy Wetherington was charged with four counts of first-degree murder and one count of arson. The 34-year-old was booked into jail Saturday night. It wasn’t immediately clear if he had an attorney who could comment on his behalf.

Field fire cuts fireworks show at Clark County fairgrounds short

It just seems hard to get away from fire when you’re doing fireworks. Thursday night’s inaugural Clark County Fourth at the Fairgrounds event was a big success, drawing an estimated 6,500 people, according to Mickey Webb, CEO of the Clark County Event Center at the Fairgrounds. But the event, intended to tamp down fireworks mayhem — especially accidental fires — in Clark County neighborhoods by providing a centralized, professional pyrotechnic display, still managed to generate a little accidental conflagration of its own.

Police seek arsonist after 2 fires damage Thomas Jefferson High School gym in Auburn

Two minor fires inside Thomas Jefferson High School in the past five days are believed to be caused by arson, according to South King Fire and Rescue officials. There were two fires in the school’s gymnasium in the last week, according to South King Fire and Rescue Assistant Chief Gordon Goodsell. Crews responded to the first fire on Monday, July 1 and the second fire on Thursday, July 4.

Spokane: City defies council, relies on new regional dispatch center after fire dispatchers are laid off, quit

Despite orders from the Spokane City Council to maintain an independent dispatch crew for firefighters, the city is now relying on a new regional system to handle emergency calls. As it prepares for the rest of the county to move forward with a new regional 911 dispatch system, the city has lost so many fire dispatchers that it can no longer fully provide fire dispatch services to itself or its neighbors.
