New Pendleton (OR) Fire Station Nearing Completion

Joe Hall, operations and business director with McCormack Construction Co., told the Pendleton City Council during its work session Tuesday night the goal is to get the approval for occupancy before Pendleton Whisky Musical Fest on July 13.

Achieving that is “going to be under the wire,” he said, but looks good for an OK by July 10. Pendleton voters passed a $10 million bond in 2017 to primarily build the new station at 1455 S.E. Court Ave., and the city hired McCormack as the general contractor and construction manager.

Bob Patterson, city public works director, told the council the total project budget now stands at more than $9.4 million and there’s roughly $266,000 available to date.

Peru (IL) Looks to Replace 1986 Fire Apparatus

“We borrowed some money to pay for that fire truck,” Radtke said. “At this point in time, that loan is almost paid in full. It’s time to probably purchase another fire truck that the chief would like to purchase. This gets us on record with them so that we can get allocated in their production schedule.”

Fire chief Jeff King said it stops the price increase. He said the price has gone up 12 percent in five months because of tariffs on metal.

“With this execution letter, it stops that increase from going up,” King said. “We sign a commitment letter because it’s not in this year’s budget. It’s in next year’s budget. They are 15 to 18 months on even building the truck. This way we can get into the rotation. Next year at this time, we’ll be able to put that into the budget.”

Rhodium Incident Management Platform Deployed in Support of Boston, Garmin Marathons

Rhodium

The Massachusetts State Police deployed a new technology to support the planning and management of security response for the Boston Marathon. The Rhodium Incident Management platform is currently utilized by hundreds of agencies across the country. Now, the Boston Marathon has turned to the tool to support multi-agency collaboration during one of the most high-profile events in the country.

More than 30,000 runners participated in the event, with tens of thousands of spectators lining the route. Security at the event has been elevated since a terrorist attack involving the detonation of multiple explosives occurred in 2013. Massachusetts State Police deployed Rhodium to facilitate near real-time communication and tactical awareness between emergency management command posts, tactical dispatch, teams on the ground and representatives from federal and local law enforcement.

When an actionable intelligence item was identified, it was placed in Rhodium’s map-based interface allowing for all users to see how items related to each other and the event geography. This enhanced dispatch abilities and provided a way to instantly track the status of each item across multiple command centers.

Days earlier, Rhodium was utilized by the Olathe Fire Department in support of the Garmin Marathon in Johnson County, Kansas. While Rhodium once again provided public safety teams with a comprehensive operating picture of the event, officials also utilized the platform’s ability to integrate with other devices. Notably, managers were able to track bicycle-mounted EMS personnel by downloading the new Rhodium Mobile application on their phones. The platform was then able to monitor their locations in real time by tracking their devices.

“All the input we’ve received about Rhodium has been positive,” said Olathe Fire Chief Jeff DeGraffenreid. “It was reliable, user friendly, and a tool for which we can see a number of applications.”
