New Whiting (NJ) Fire Apparatus in Service

 
 
This pumper replaced the 1982 Mack Engine the company had, William Sloan said. It carries 1,000 gallons and can pump 2,000 gallons per minute. It boasts a light tower and spare rescue tools. The company received the pumper in mid-January, but it didn’t go into service until mid-March. Since then, it’s probably been on 50 calls.

Two fires spark on I-82 near Kennewick, possibly started by vehicle

Firefighters worked to put out two grass fires in Kennewick Monday afternoon, both within a few miles from each other. Around 1:20 p.m., Benton County Fire District #1 went out and found one fire near the I-82 entrance from Kennewick. The other was near Locust Grove Road. Firefighters were quickly able to put it out.

Woman hurt, 3 cats killed in Lynnwood house fire

A woman was sent to the hospital and three of four cats died in a fire Monday morning at a home in Lynnwood. According to South County Fire, crews were called to the home on 60th Ave. West around 7:00 a.m. Firefighters could see a column of smoke from several blocks away. The 66-year-old woman was outside of the home when crews arrived.

Yakima man arrested on arson charges after setting house on fire, driving to airport with gun

At about 6:00 p.m. Sunday, a man called 9-1-1 in Yakima and reported he had set his house on fire and was headed to the Yakima airport with a firearm. The man gave calltakers a description of his vehicle and said he would be waiting at the airport for police. Yakima police arrived at the Yakima Air Terminal/McAllister Field and found a vehicle matching the description given, which was parked in front of the terminal building with its driver’s side door open and its engine running.

Wildfire warning issued statewide with hot temperatures coming

Firefighters are worried the hot temperatures this week could spark serious wildfires on both sides of the Cascades. With temperatures near 90 in the Puget Sound region and as high as 100 in Eastern Washington, the potential for serious wildfires jumps significantly. On top of that, more than 70% of the state is in a drought or experiencing abnormally dry conditions.
