East County Fire & Rescue: Fire levy lid lift to go back on ballot

Fire commissioners at East County Fire and Rescue (ECFR) will again ask voters to support the rural fire district by passing a fire levy lid lift in the August primary election. If approved, the “lid lift” would restore the fire levy approved in 2008 to its original rate of $1.50 per $1,000 in assessed property value (APV).

Fire in Everett kills elderly woman, injures two others

VIDEO: A 2-alarm fire in southwest Everett killed one elderly woman and injured two others early Thursday morning. "At about 2:30 there was a bunch of screaming and yelling that woke me up and I came running out here... and we watched all these firefighters and police cars come running down," said Alex Yonke, who lives next door to the burning home in the 3600 block of Shore Avenue.

Seattle's air quality is among the worst in the nation

Air quality in Washington has gotten worse. The Seattle-Tacoma metro area ranked among the 10 most polluted cities by the American Lung Association in its annual "State of the Air" report released earlier this month -- and it wasn't the only Washington city to make the list, nor the worst. The main reason: wildfires.

Four people injured, two dogs rescued in fire at Spokane apartments

Four people were injured in a fire at the Regal Heights apartment complex on Spokane's South Hill late Wednesday night. Spokane Firefighters said they were able to rescue two dogs from the scene. The first call for the fire came at 10:38 p.m. Firefighters arrived to find flames in a second-floor apartment.
