The Chehalis Fire Department will cease providing fire investigation services for Lewis County later this year after more than two decades of doing so. Chehalis Fire Chief Ken Cardinale wrote a letter to Lee Napier, community development director for Lewis County, dated March 20 that serves to trigger the 90-day notice of termination for the most recent interlocal agreement between the two departments.

Firefighters managed to save a man's pet cat from their burning home in Carnation Thursday afternoon. The homeowner was napping just before 2 p.m. when he awakened by his dog barking and noticed a heavy smoke building in his home just off SR-203 near Stillwater Hill. He managed to get out and call for help.

The Ephrata Fire Department has three new lieutenants. EFD veterans Maxwell Yoder, Colleen Winski and Chandler Gribble all received lieutenants badges during a short pinning ceremony at Wednesday night’s regular meeting of the Ephrata City Council. “Each shift will now have a captain and a lieutenant,” said EFD Chief Jeremy Burns.
