Study: Savannah Fire (GA) Decommissioned Boat 'Extremely Important'

The University of Georgia’s Carl Vinson Institute of Government found that the boat’s value as a “portable fire hydrant” and the vessel’s “extremely important” rescue capabilities are worth the expense.  

While there’s always a balance between risk management and costs of services, best practices call for a marine company to operate along the Savannah River, Paula Sanford told the Savannah City Council last week. She is a local government finance specialist who conducted the study.

“I would suggest that you work with the [Georgia Ports Authority] or any authority that receives the service for free, if they are tax exempt, to help pay for it,” Sanford said.

Stolen Alsen Fire Department (LA) Fire Apparatus Found

Livingston police were able to peacefully intervene between Walker & Juban Rd. after a tip led to the recovery of the tanker truck, which was originally spotted in the parking lot of a Walker retailer.  

LPSO confirmed a representative from the volunteer fire department has reclaimed the truck, which appeared to not suffer any damage.

Woman dies in early Thursday morning house fire near Soap Lake

A woman died in an early Thursday morning house fire near Soap Lake. According to the Grant County Sheriff's Office, emergency responders were called to 4777 Rd. 19-Northeast at about 12:20 a.m. for a house fire. One of the occupants, Samuel Engelhardt, was outside chopping wood when he noticed the double-wide manufactured home was ablaze.

Gas thief targets Spokane Valley fire station

VIDEO: When someone calls for help -- first responders drop everything and race to the emergency. A thief in Spokane Valley took advantage of a medical call early Wednesday morning and siphoned gas from the personal vehicle of at least one crew member at the Evergreen Fire Station at 12th Avenue and S Evergreen Road.

City proposes pay raise to firefighters, but not full parity, Houston officials say
