Two adults and two small dogs were displaced from their northeast Spokane home early Wednesday morning when the garage caught fire and spread to the house. A woman was found dead and a second was injured as fire burned an apartment building in Burien Tuesday evening. Firefighters arrived at the Forest View Apartments at 12200 Ambaum Boulevard SW around 6 p.m. to find flames burning on at least three floors. Family on scene told KOMO News the woman was found dead on the first floor of the apartment complex.

Bellingham Fire Department Chief Bill Newbold, who has held the position for five years and worked for the department since 2013, is planning to retire in March. Assistant Chief Jay Comfort told The Bellingham Herald of Newbold’s decision in an interview Tuesday, and Newbold confirmed his decision in an email to The Bellingham Herald later in the day.
