Former New York fire chief sentenced to prison for stealing from department

Gerald Munson, the former chief of the Croton-on-Hudson Fire Department, and member of a family involved in the village fire services for nearly a century, on Wednesday was sentenced to as much as four and a half years in state prison for stealing $313,000 from the department. Westchester County Court Judge Larry Schwartz handed down the sentence two months after Munson pleaded guilty to grand larceny as a crime of public corruption.

Detroit firefighters concerned for safety after delayed police response to murder scene

The Detroit Firefighters Union is blasting Detroit police, questioning why it took police more than 20 minutes to respond to the scene of a murder. It happened Saturday at a home on Epworth Street on the city's west side. The first calls for help came in at 1:40 a.m. but police didn't get there until repeated calls for help were sent out.

Clallam 2 Fire-Rescue assistant chief retires after 28 years of service

After volunteering more than 28 years to firefighting in Clallam County, Mike DeRousie, assistant chief of Clallam Fire District No. 2, is preparing to retire Friday. DeRousie, who also owns the Spa Shop Pellet Heat Co. in Port Angeles, said that at 64, it’s time for him to retire from the fire service, spend more time with his 10 grandchildren and begin to give back to his family who have had to accept the erratic schedule of a volunteer firefighter.

Construction site fire in Ridgefield suspected arson

The Clark County Sheriff’s Office and Ridgefield police are investigating a suspected arson at a townhome construction site. Clark County Fire and Rescue says the fire erupted just after midnight Wednesday morning off North Canyon Circle near North 32nd Avenue. It’s all part of a new development currently under construction.
