Spokane Valley firefighters quickly extinguish vacant house fire

Spokane Valley firefighters responded to a reported structure fire in the 10500 block of E. 14th Ave. shortly before 3:45 a.m. Sunday morning. The first responding crew on scene found the structure well involved with the fire extending to the surrounding yard. Firefighters quickly knocked down the fire in the yard to protect neighboring homes and made an attack to extinguish the fire inside the home, which had also extended into the attic.

Woman struck by train, seriously injured near Lacey

A woman was hit by a train and seriously injured Sunday night as she was walking along the tracks near Lacey. Police and medics responded to the scene, the railroad tracks between Mullen Road and Atchinson Drive in Lacey, at about 10:30 p.m. after receiving reports of a train hitting a pedestrian. The woman was found with multiple serious injuries, said a Lacey Fire District spokesperson.

Firefighter dies fighting 7-alarm house fire in Maryland

A firefighter has died after battling a house fire in Clarksville early Monday morning, the Howard County Fire Department said. The firefighter, who was identified by the Maryland Secretary of State’s office as Nathan Flynn, fell through the floor while fighting a seven-alarm blaze on the 7000 block of Woodscape Drive.
