Leaders of the St. Joseph County 911 center near here know thousands of dispatches have been delayed this year because of computer problems that are being fixed. But they still don’t know how long delays lasted, or if they might have affected responses to emergencies such as fires and heart attacks.
Officials say that to investigate those delays, data needs to be provided by Tyler Technologies, the Plano, Texas-based software company whose New World computer-aided dispatch system has been riddled with problems since the center started using it in June 2017.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency has authorized the use of federal funds to help fight the Boyd's Fire, located three miles northwest of Kettle Falls.
FEMA Region 10 Administrator Mike O'Hare approved the state of Washington's request on Monday.
The fire, which started on Saturday, has burned over 3,000 acres of state and federal land, and forced portions of State Route 20 to close.

With the impending retirement of Hoquiam Fire Chief Paul Dean Oct. 1 and now a letter of support from the presidents of both the Aberdeen and Hoquiam firefighters unions, discussions between the two cities about consolidating fire and EMS services seems to be picking up steam.
The letter was presented to the Hoquiam City Council Monday.

A Fire Boss plane went down in Ferry County this afternoon while fighting one of the 70 fires that sparked east of the Cascades after the lightning storms and winds Saturday.
According to the Department of National Resources, the aircraft’s engine failed while fighting a fire, forcing the pilot to leave the fire line and making a hard landing on a logging road.

Calling all artists! The City of Boston is searching for creative individuals to create a public piece of art for Roxbury's newest fire station. Engine 42 Fire Station, located at 1870 Columbus Avenue, will be built near Egleston Square. The project, which is commissioned by the city, has a budget of $300,000.
The search for artists comes from Walsh’s Office of Arts and Culture in collaboration with the Boston Art Commission. The art will be located outside of the building or on its grounds.
Officials are looking for a design that will enrich the connection between the Boston Fire Department and the surrounding Roxbury and Egleston communities.
