Kennewick firefighters battle blaze in auto shop

Kennewick firefighters battled a short blaze at an automotive shop on Third Avenue. The fire started in a vehicle at Les's A-1 Automotive and Repair at 620 East Third at 1:30 p.m. Flames spread to the building. Kennewick firefighters brought the blaze under control within 20 minutes, and were checking to see if it spread to the attic.

Yakima firefighters say people and dog escape apartment fire, despite no batteries in fire alarm

A fire in the middle of the night, in a home where firefighters say the smoke alarm wasn't working. At around 3:40 in the morning, the Yakima Fire Department responded to an apartment in the 600 block of North 6th Avenue. Firefighters say when they arrived, they saw the people living there and their dog had already evacuated.

South King Fire and Rescue to ask voters for tax increase

South King Fire and Rescue will ask voters in Federal Way and Des Moines on Aug. 7 to lift a property tax lid to allow the district to collect $1.50 per $1,000 of assessed valuation. State law allows fire districts to collect up to $1.50 per $1,000 assessed property valuation, but the increase can’t be more than 1 percent from the previous year without voter approval.

Yakima city leaders experience the life of a firefighter

Sometimes it takes only seconds to determine life or death. It's a reality first responders deal with on a daily basis, but on Saturday there's some new faces on the crew when city council members and other city leaders got the chance to experience what it's like responding to emergencies."I've had some first aid training, but not like anything like the training that I just went through.
