OCALA, FL – May 10, 2018 – REV Group, a manufacturer of industry-leading motor vehicle brands, has announced a partnership with ZeroRPM in the development of a battery powered idle mitigation system specifically engineered for the E-ONE, Ferrara and KME fire apparatus.

The idle mitigation system will automatically switch off the fire truck’s chassis engine to power the warning lights, work lights and scene lights for 30 minutes or more depending on amp draw and size of the battery module. Through use of the ZeroRPM Idle Mitigation System, fire departments can reduce fuel costs, excessive engine wear, scene noise, while also promoting cleaner air for the environment and providing operators with cab comfort without running the vehicle’s engine.

The benefits of the Idle Mitigation System include the following:

• Operates in complete silence

• Reduces fuel consumption

• Requires no maintenance

• Results in less frequent DPF regenerations due to reduced idling

• Results in less wear on power train due to reduced idle time

• Powers optional HVAC system to keep cab cool

GRAND RAPIDS, Wyoming - HME Ahrens-Fox recently announced the addition of Tom Jekel as the Vice President of Operations. Jekel will oversee the day to day operations of all HME Ahrens-Fox firefighting apparatus. 

“The growth of HME Ahrens-Fox has necessitated the addition of someone with Tom’s depth and experience,” said President, Jim Monterusso. “To find someone with equal components of manufacturing, education, and that of a first-responder made Tom’s addition an easy choice.” 

Jekel, has 20+ years of hands-on manufacturing leadership, where he most recently served as the plant manager at Symbiote in Zeeland, MI. He has his Six Sigma Greenbelt certification, has been an instructor at Grand Rapids Community College for over 20 years, is an EMT, and is Deputy Chief of the Zeeland Township Fire Department. Tom has been married to his wife Barbara for 30 years, and they have 4 kids.

The city of Pensacola has motioned to dismiss a discrimination lawsuit filed by a former city fire chief. In late 2016, Joseph Glover filed a federal lawsuit against the city and the mayor alleging he was investigated, suspended and fired in retaliation for filing a discrimination complaint. In a filing last week, attorneys for the city called for a summary judgement in their favor.

The Colorado Springs City Council will vote whether to place a collective bargaining issue on the ballot next year for the city's firefighters, council President Richard Skorman promised Tuesday. Fire icon Chief Alan Brunacini, otherwise known as Chief Bruno, made an impact on the fire service in more ways than one. And while he may be gone, he is most definitely never forgotten – especially by two former International Association of Fire Chiefs Fire Chief of the Year award winners. Chiefs Bruce Varner and Thomas Kuntz learned from Chief Bruno, along with many other mentors during their fire service career, that educating the community, putting the customer first and having empathy are some of the many keys to success as a fire chief.
