Teen injured in Amtrak derailment meets Tumwater firefighters who saved him

After more than a month in the hospital, Timmy Brodigan met the first responders who treated him after the Amtrak derailment. “I’m feeling thankful,” Timmy said as he waited for them to arrive. “I get to meet the people who saved my life.” On December 18th, the 16-year-old was on Amtrak 501 on his way to see cousins in Oregon when the train derailed near DuPont, Wash.

Man severely burned as propane tanks explode in woods outside Sultan

A man was burned all over his body Wednesday morning as a propane tank exploded in the woods between Monroe and Sultan, fire officials said. Firefighters from Snohomish County Fire District 5 responded to the scene, in the 28000 block of 176th Place SE, at about 5:50 a.m. after receiving reports about a burn victim and a propane tank fire.

OTTO & BETTY JENSEN SCHOLARSHIP - WFC Conference 2018

In honor of and at the request of Otto and Betty Jensen, a fund was established in 1996 to pay all the costs (registration, lodging and mileage) to a Volunteer Fire Chief and spouse to attend the WFC Annual Conference. This volunteer chief, due to financial limitations of their organization, would otherwise not be able to attend. Please complete the attached Application and return it to the Fire Chiefs office no later than April 2, 2018.  

Applications will be accepted from volunteer fire chiefs and from those submitting the form on behalf of a volunteer fire chief.

Washington state Legislature takes up bills to restrict chemicals used in firefighting foam, packaging

Firefighting foams containing a class of chemicals linked to water pollution would face major new restrictions under a bill introduced in the Washington state House of Representatives. Some polyfluoroalkyl and perfluoroalkyl chemicals — known as PFAS — have turned up in state waterways and drinking-water wells, and surveys indicate they are present in the blood of most Americans.

Accused arsonist sets Nevada firefighter's personal truck ablaze in front of fire station

PHOTO - A bizarre car fire erupted at a Las Vegas fire station. Firefighters say a woman lit up a firefighter's personal truck in the parking lot. Las Vegas fire officials have no clue why the arsonist picked that truck. Snapshots show an early morning truck fire underneath U.S. 95 near North Casino Center Boulevard.
