Brush fire danger remains high in Pierce County despite rain, cooler temperatures

Despite the rain and cooler temperatures, the risk of brush fires remains very high in the region. Lightning in the forecast is raising concern for firefighters who have been battling flames throughout the summer. There is an active Stage 2 Burn Ban in Pierce County, where Fire Marshal Ken Rice said the change in weather is not enough to reduce brush fire danger.

Washington Task Force 1 returns from Maui after helping local firefighters find missing loved ones

Hundreds of people don’t tend to go missing during wildfires, but the devastation that destroyed the town of Lahaina on the Hawaiian island of Maui was like no other. Seattle Fire Lieutenant Ryan Nash and 74 other first responders with Washington Task Force 1 just got back from Maui over the weekend.

VIDEO: Firefighters battle large blaze at Tennessee recycling building

PHOTOS: Fire crews are battling a large blaze in Newport that broke out late Monday. As of 8 a.m. Tuesday, the fire at Scott Recycling was still active and the Cocke County Sheriff’s Office said the building is a total loss. The Cocke County Emergency Management Agency called the incident response “a sight to see” in a Tuesday morning update and commended the leadership among the agencies that responded to the scene.

Michigan fire departments agree to rent each other’s fire equipment on emergency basis

Dearborn and Ann Arbor have agreed to rent each other’s ambulances and other emergency vehicles on an as-needed or emergency basis. Both cities agreed to the deal in August. “This would occur if Rescue 1-1 is out of service for an extended period of time or if we wanted to add a second transport unit during peak demand times such as night, home football games,” The Ann Arbor Fire Department posted on Facebook.

Acting New Jersey Governor Signs Firefighters Chaplain Bill Into Law

Acting Governor Nicholas Scutari on Monday signed A-5275/S-3671, providing municipal governing bodies more flexibility in appointing chaplains to their fire departments. Under current law, the governing body of any municipality, by ordinance, may provide for the appointment of one or more ordained members of the clergy as chaplains to the paid or part-paid fire department and force of the municipality, with the rank of battalion chief and their salaries fixed by the governing body.
