Related: Reported gunfire hampers firefighters in Lynnwood

Reports of gunfire kept firefighters from fully attacking a house fire in Lynnwood Wednesday. The call came in around 7:30 a.m. in the 14300 block of 16th Place West. Authorities at the scene said they had received reports that there were gunshots heard at the scene, but that was not immediately confirmed.

Oil terminal on Columbia River gets thumbs-down from state agency

A years-in-the-works plan to build America's largest oil-by-rail terminal, on the Columbia River in Vancouver, Washington, was given a unanimous thumbs-down on Tuesday by the state's energy siting council. The recommendation by the Energy Facility Site Evaluation Council (EFSEC) is just that. The final decision rests with Gov.

Fire at vacant Yakima home considered "suspicious"

Firefighters are calling a fire that broke out Tuesday morning at a vacant home "suspicious." The fire was reported around 8:30 a.m. at 705 S. 16th Ave. On arrival they found a fire at the rear of the house which had extended into the building's floor joists, according to a news release from the Yakima Fire Department.
