South Snohomish County Fire swears in three assistant chiefs, honors wildland firefighters

South Snohomish County Fire & Rescue Board of Commissioners last week swore in three assistant fire chiefs and honored 15 firefighters deployed to wildfires this year. Doug Dahl, Scott Goodale and Kevin Zweber were sworn in and promoted to the rank of Assistant Chief. Dahl was promoted to Assistant Chief of Operations.

Greeneville (TN) Rescue Squad Receives Equipment Grants

The rescue squad will use the stabilization jacks on two of their primary rescue trucks, according to the release.  

Rescue squad members “were surprised to learn the jacks that were received were the first two sold in the U.S. by the Res-Q-Jack company,” the release states.

American Medical Response Sets Up Ambulance Base in New Rochelle (NY)

AMR bills itself as the nation’s largest pre-hospital emergency care provider, handling 4.5 million patients a year from operations in 40 states and the District of Columbia.  

It provides mutual aid or backup ambulances, for example, when there is a surge in demand. It staffs concerts and sports events, including NASCAR races.

Plainsboro (NJ) Voters Approve $1.5 Million Firehouse Expansion

The project was approved by a 34-7 vote during the special meeting at which taxpayers had the opportunity to vote. Fire officials have said that the project will be funded through existing surplus funds and annual budget allocations and will not increase taxes. "The building expansion reflects new space needs created by additions in our fleet over the 17 years since the current fire station was built in 1999, and what we anticipate to be changes in the makeup of our firefighting force in the future," said Ted Wagner, chairman of the Plainsboro Board of Fire Commissioners.

Firefighters extinguish attic fire in Ridgefield floating home

Clark County Fire & Rescue firefighters extinguished a fire Tuesday in the attic of a floating home at McCuddy’s Ridgefield Marina. Clark County Fire spokesman Tim Dawdy said responders received reports about the fire about 1 p.m. at the marina at 5 W. Mill St. Firefighters stationed at the marina located a vacant floating home off dock B and spotted smoke and fire escaping its attic, Dawdy said.
