Spokane Fire Chief chosen for national program

Spokane Fire Department Chief Brian Schaeffer will join 20 other chiefs from around the country in a year-long development program for fire department leaders. Schaeffer was accepted into the International Association of Fire Chiefs’ sixth Fire Service Executive Development Institute, which begins in December.

Transients Suspected of Causing Fire at Abandoned Centralia Garage

An abandoned garage structure on a property that includes a house that previously caught fire also burned down Monday morning, Riverside Fire Authority Chief Mike Kytta told The Chronicle. Fire crews were still at the scene at about 10:30 Monday morning in the 1400 block of Alexander Street — at the end of the dead end road — keeping an eye on the burning structure to prevent it from spreading to nearby houses.

Aberdeen Woman Allegedly Stole $350,000 From Credit Union, Set Fire to Building

An Aberdeen woman accused of stealing more than $350,000 from the credit union she managed, then setting fire to the building pleaded guilty Monday to five counts of first-degree theft. The Aberdeen Police Department reports that detectives began investigating Krista Putman, 38, following a March 29, 2016 fire at the Grays Harbor Woodworkers Credit Union, located at 2600 Sumner Avenue.

Maryland city files lawsuit against break away volunteer firefighters over money, equipment

The city of Salisbury has filed a lawsuit against a group of volunteer firefighters who broke away from the Salisbury Fire Department. The suit is seeking a halt to the spending of taxpayer and charitable funds and the return of property and improperly spent money. The case filed in Wicomico County Circuit Court names Company 1 and 11 of its officers individually.
