The Borough Council recently approved a bond ordinance to authorize the acquisition of a new rescue fire truck for the West Paterson Volunteer Fire Department, at a cost of $760,000. "Operating a fire department in this day and age is difficult," said Mayor Keith Kazmark.
Adding to the fleet without strain on the taxpayers, and looking ahead to the future replacement of four vehicles obtained in 2001 that will need replacing, will be possible due to conclusion of the borough’s long-term road resurfacing project debt service.

The new vehicle will replace a 20-year old truck at Company #1. Fire Chief Paul Salomone made suggestions to the council on how the old truck could benefit the borough after it is removed from service and it was determined that it will be re-utilized by the Department of Public Works.
