In a Stanislaus County town with a population of 23,000 people, there’s one thing families may not know. Oakdale has a rich history in the fire engine industry, with one family business in town being the only fire engine manufacturer on the West Coast. In fact, Stanislaus County recently celebrated the centennial of the fire engine industry.

With temperatures surpassing 90 degrees and wind gusts exceeding 40 mph, Benton County firefighters were put to the test Tuesday, June 13 as three wildland fires continue to burn across Benton County. The Yakitat fire, the largest of the three Tri-Cities fires located in southwest Benton City, has grown to more than 7,000 acres in size according to officials from Benton County Fire District 1.

The Hat Rock fire that started in Oregon moved into Washington around 8 p.m. on June 13 is now contained in Walla Walla County. Crews continue to fight the fire in Oregon. State Fire resources were mobilized to fight the fire near Touchet around 10:15 p.m. according to the state Fire Marshal's Office.

Longtime Snoqualmie Fire Chief Mark Correira announced June 12 that he is leaving the city later this month. His last day will be June 29. Correira took the fire chief job in Snoqualmie back in 2014, following almost 16 years as the assistant chief for Snohomish County Fire District #1. He also briefly served as Snoqualmie’s interim city administrator for nine months in 2021.
