Private EMS company clashes with volunteer firefighters in Pend Oreille County

A private ambulance company about to begin service in Pend Oreille County says they're being told not to respond to calls local fire volunteers can handle on their own. One fire chief said it's a matter of saving resources, but the company says it won't be able to survive. When Pend Oreille paramedics begin service in Pend Oreille county, they will be the only first responders licensed to transport patients requiring advanced life support.

Homeless camp cleanup prompts letter from Seattle firefighters to council member

Seattle firefighters are speaking out against a budget proposal that would end clean-ups of unauthorized homeless camps in the city. In a letter to councilmember Kshama Sawant, Seattle Firefighters Union President Kenny Stuart said, "Needle sticks, exposure to biohazard and contaminants, and assault are serious issues that our firefighters face at unauthorized encampments every day.

Fire destroys Clallam County home, sends two to hospital

Two people were rescued from a burning home on Thornton Drive overlooking the Dungeness Spit. The house at 20 Thornton Drive was declared a complete loss after the Friday blaze, which spewed flames and smoke seen as far away as Port Angeles. The homeowner, Dorothy Saxton, 95, and her daughter, Donna Huizinga, were rescued by electricians working nearby, said Assistant Chief Dan Orr of Clallam County Fire District No.
