A fire in the 22600 block of 88 Ave. S. this morning, Dec. 18, caused more than $2 million in damage, according to a press release by the Puget Sound Regional Fire Authority.
The release said the first 911 call came from the company’s owner at 7:30 a.m., as he arrived at work. He reported white smoke coming from one end of the single story, Masonry Building, but very quickly changed it to include flames as well.

A Valley Regional Fire Authority firefighter has minor injuries after a mobile fire in Auburn Monday night.
Firefighters were called to the Auburn Green Mobile Home Park off 29th St. SE, after a neighbor reported seeing heavy smoke coming from the home.
Once crews arrived, they were able to quickly knock down the fire.

An Amtrak train that derailed near DuPont Monday morning killing three people and injuring dozens of others was going 80 mph in a 30 mph area just before the crash, according to preliminary data reports given to the National Transportation Safety Board.
In a briefing late Monday night, NTSB investigators said they are beginning to gather information from the data recorder in the rear locomotive of the train.

Officials say a firefighter suffered a heart attack while responding to a call at a Chase Bank Monday morning in Nyack and later died.
Nyack fire crews responded to the bank on North Broadway around 8:30 a.m. after reports of a chemical spill. Officials say a battery in the bank's alarm system overheated, creating an odor.

The city and state used private investigators to check on firefighters out on extended sick leave after the city’s Fire Department failed to conduct those compliance checks, state officials said.
The decision to use investigators, allowed under the state takeover of the city, came after city and state officials were made aware of possible abuse of sick leave, said Lisa Ryan, spokeswoman for the Community Affairs Department.
