Hershey volunteer firefighters paid for the $380,000 pumper by saving money from each year's budget along with private donations and fundraising, Tobiasson said. Of the cost, $60,000 came from the department’s annual spaghetti feed, hosted the last Sunday in March. Tobiasson said the effort took many years.
The new truck brings more room, convenience and practicality. The 1991 firetruck had two air packs in its cab, allowing firefighters to change into gear en route to a scene. The 2017 truck has five. The newer truck allows for 1,500 gallons per minute of water, while the older truck allowed for 1,250, Tobiasson said.
