VIDEO: In Pierce County, fire crews battled a metal scrapyard fire in the Tacoma Tideflats on Sunday.
The big plume of smoke was visible miles away. Tacoma Fire said the fire started just before 7 a.m.
Arriving crews couldn’t reach the heart of the fire due to debris being in the way. So workers at the scrapyard used their own equipment to separate unburned piles so that fire crews could put out the flames.

VIDEO: Crews say the day a person needs to call 911, it’s one of the worse days of their life.
Charlotte Fire didn’t get that call for help right away.
“There was some sort of delay in dialing 911, a five-to-six-minute delay, so we were already behind the eight ball with that,” a CFD communications officer described Thursday, a week removed from the 5-Alarm fire in the SouthPark community.
