This Day in History: Universal Studios fire in California destroys musicians’ master recordings

VIDEO: On June 1, 2008, an enormous fire at the Universal Studios Hollywood theme park in California destroyed a massive collection of irreplaceable recordings by some of the greatest musicians in American history. Nobody was seriously injured in the fire, but The New York Times referred to the disaster as "The Day the Music Burned.

Reception to Welcome New Chehalis Fire Chief Set for June 12

Originally scheduled for last month but postponed, new Chehalis Fire Chief Adam Fulbright’s formal badge pinning ceremony and reception have been rescheduled to June 12, according to a news release from the city. The reception will be held from 4:30 to 5 p.m. in the city council chambers at Chehalis City Hall, located at 350 N.

Plumes of smoke seen from horizon as fire burns at Ostrom’s abandoned Mushroom Farm near Lacey

Crews started battling a massive fire on Wednesday at the abandoned Ostrom’s Mushroom Farm near Lacey. Lacey fire officials say the fire could take days to put out as it is at a very large building and burning the over 50-year-old wooden mushroom racks. No one was supposed to be inside the building, as the Ostrom Mushroom Company moved operations to Sunnyside four years ago, but there is a lot of graffiti on the building, so people do have access to the exterior.

House fire under investigation in Kirkland

Investigators are working to determine what started a fire at a Kirkland home on Wednesday. Firefighters were called to the house on Northeast 95th Street shortly before 4 a.m. The home is close to Mark Twain Elementary School. The response from fire crews and Kirkland Police closed 95th Street between 128th and 130th.
