3,500 gallons of oil catch fire at wrecking yard in Mason County

VIDEO/PHOTOS: A fire erupted at what appears to be an auto wrecking yard in Mason County Wednesday afternoon. The fire was reported around 4 p.m. An aerial view from the KOMO News helicopter showed vehicles and tires burning, sending a plume of black smoke into the air. Seven 500 gallon drums of oil caught fire, according to Washington State Patrol (WSP) Trooper Katherine Weatherwax.

Fallen firefighters from Washington to be honored at 42nd National Fallen Firefighters Memorial in Maryland

144 firefighters who died on the job will be honored at the 42nd National Fallen Firefighters Memorial on May 6 and 7. Of those being honored, 79 died in 2022 and 65 from previous years. All 144 names will be etched into a plaque and be placed on the National Memorial permanently. Five honorees served in Washington.

Fire at Millwood paper company sparked by chemical leak

A chemical leak followed by the mixing of another unknown chemical led to a fire at the Inland Empire Paper Company in Millwood on Wednesday afternoon, according to Spokane Valley fire officials. The fire caused people inside the building to evacuate and undergo decontamination. Fire crews arrived at the paper company a few minutes after the call came in, and the incident was upgraded to a second-alarm fire.

VIDEO: Man badly burned, utility worker hurt when house explodes in Michigan

A man was badly burned and a DTE Energy worker was injured when a house exploded Tuesday in Inkster. The explosion happened around 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 2, at a house in the 26000 block of Penn Street in Inkster, near the border of Dearborn Heights. “I was in my living room watching TV and I heard some ‘boom,’ and I thought someone was in my house,” neighbor Alina Boudi said.
