Tumwater Fire Chief Brian Hurley is joining a countywide mission to show it’s OK for firefighters, EMTs and other frontline workers to talk about their mental health.
It’s being done through the Peer Support Program, a confidential opportunity to debrief with colleagues.
Hurley and Rian Winter, lead of the Peer Support Group and EMS lieutenant, gave a presentation to the Tumwater Public Health and Safety Committee on July 11.

VIDEO: Officials are working to extinguish a large industrial fire in Longview that started Tuesday evening.
The fire is near 1700 Industrial Way. Wood chip piles and log decks are burning near the Weyerhaeuser property, which is roughly 60 acres in size.
SR 432 has reopened in both directions between milepost 4.

PHOTO: Clallam County Sheriff's deputies responded to a home explosion that left a man dead in Sequim on Tuesday evening.
Deputies said the explosion took place in the 100 block of June Place at around 7 p.m. Once they arrived at the scene, deputies and Clallam County Fire District 3 found that an entire home was destroyed by the explosion and fire that followed shortly after.

A grass fire that scorched over a half-acre of grass at a Kingston home was likely sparked with a cigarette discarded in a fire pit, and officials note that the speed of the fire’s spread demonstrates the conditions that led the Kitsap County fire marshal to recently ban nearly all outdoor fires.
