Kentucky fire department first in state to offer special cancer screening test

The Georgetown Fire Department is now the first in Kentucky to offer a specific type of cancer screening test to its firefighters. It’s called the Galleri test and it can detect more than 50 types of cancer, even in the earliest stages. “We always want to try to figure out ways that we can take care of our members,” said Chief Tim Thompson, Georgetown Fire Department.

Time and money needed to replace South Dakota fire department equipment after fire destroys nearly everything

While the Lake Norden fire department has received offers of help after a Wednesday morning fire destroyed much of its equipment, the long-term replacement will take time and money. Four of the department’s five fire vehicles were destroyed in the fire as well as the two ambulances, said Tony Aas, the city’s police chief.

Several fire agencies respond to large vegetation fire in Kennewick

VIDEO/PHOTOS: Several fire agencies responded to a large vegetation fire at the Columbia Park in Kennewick. On May 4, just after 2 p.m., the Kennewick Fire Department was dispatched to the 2700 block of Paul Parish Drive, near the Columbia Park Golf Course for a report of a vegetation fire. Benton County Fire District #1 and other agencies responded as part of a mutual-aid agreement.
