Fire Station near Eastgate Mall to Be Expanded

Union Township is expanding a fire station near Eastgate Mall for $1.3 million. The township got a $259,500 capital safety grant from the Ohio Development Services Agency to offset some of the cost of work to be done on Station No. 49 at 718 Old State Route 74.

“We are adding an additional bay for a ladder truck to service the high-rise buildings and hotels in the area,” said John McGraw, chairman of the Union Township Board of Trustees.

“The roof structure also needs to be replaced and larger bay doors need to be added.

“The roof needed to be replaced even if we weren't doing this project. Now we can combine the roof replacement with the expansion into one project,” McGraw said.
