Surveillance Video, Records Offer New Perspective On UConn Student's 2016 Death

Alarms were ringing inside a dormitory at UConn in the early morning of October 16, 2016, and as firefighter Dana Barrow began driving out of a firehouse garage, the right front tire of his Chevy Tahoe bumped into something, bringing the SUV to a sudden stop. One second passed. And then Barrow, focused on a possible fire emergency, pressed the gas pedal, inching the 7,130-pound vehicle over the obstruction blocking his way.

California firefighter awarded Medal of Valor posthumously

Santa Cruz firefighter Clayton Ogden died, at age 47, after a short bout with cancer this summer. This week, Santa Cruz Fire Chief Jim Frawley posthumously awarded Ogden the Medal of Valor for his involvement in protecting a civilian during the fatal Feb. 26, 2013 shootout that left two Santa Cruz police officers dead.

Former Cleveland firefighter says city discriminated against him because he's white

A former Cleveland firefighter has filed a discrimination lawsuit claiming the department and city officials mishandled a complaint he filed following an altercation with two other firefighters last year. Samuel Livingston, who was hired as a firefighter in 2000, is seeking an unspecified amount in damages accusing the department of reverse discrimination after an April 5, 2016 physical altercation with his coworkers June Colon and Larry Gray.

Scott Safety Prepares to Support Multimillion-Dollar Partnership with Nation's Third-Largest Firefighting Organization

Protective equipment and safety device manufacturer Scott Safety is preparing to launch its $12.5 million partnership with California Department of Forestry and Fire Protection (CAL FIRE). The company is readying its support of the nation’s third-largest firefighting organization and its 5,600 full-time firefighters through equipment production and in-service training.

As part of the multimillion-dollar agreement, Scott Safety will provide 2,400 Air-Pak X3 SCBA (self-contained breathing apparatus) to 237 fire stations in California. This innovative product exceeds the most recent safety standards and offers enhanced fireground communications with options for a wide range of innovative accessory add-ons.

Every Air-Pak SCBA is made in the USA and manufactured in Scott Safety’s Monroe global headquarters and education center. These assets are a key resource in Scott Safety’s plan to educate and train CAL FIRE on equipment best practices.

Under this new partnership, CAL FIRE will have easy and quick access to Scott Safety’s continued innovation through Scott Safety’s distribution partner, ALLSTAR Fire Equipment, headquartered in Arcadia, California.

Spokane Police Department arrests suspect in Beacon Cleaners arson fire

The Spokane Police Department arrested the suspect Sunday in connection to the Beacon Cleaners arson fire sparked back in August. Scott M. Lenway, 42, was arrested Sunday morning after an anonymous tip according to police. On August 11, fire crews responded to a structure fire at Beacon Cleaners on East 32nd Avenue and South Grand Boulevard.
