Henry County Opens New Locust Grove Fire Station

Public safety in Henry County is about to increase with the new Fire Station 14, according to the Jersey City, N.J.-based Insurance Services Office. Assistant Chief of Prevention Joe Kelley said the ISO rating of Locust Grove's Luella area will rise six levels, from a 10 to a 4, upon the station being fully staffed and operational Oct.

He spoke at the station’s Oct. 9 ribbon-cutting ceremony, attended by Fire Chief Nish Willis, Chair June Wood, fire department officials, county staff members and commissioners Dee Clemmons, Blake Prince and Johnny Wilson.


 
 

Willis said the fire department is very enthusiastic about the three-bay, one-story structure.


“It’s been a long time coming for the residents out here,” she said of land including the Luella school cluster. “We have an engine and a rescue that will be riding out of this station. We’re really excited.”

Follow up: Ocean Shores woman dies in fire; only 1 firefighter available to respond

The Ocean Shores Fire Department found itself critically short-handed during a blaze that turned deadly over the weekend. There was only one firefighter available to go on the call. "It just happened so fast," said neighbor Steven Monson. "All of a sudden whoosh. It just blew up like that." He is astounded by the destructive nature of the fire that consumed the small home just 15 feet from his.

Fire damages vacant home in Vancouver, none hurt

A fire damaged a vacant house in the Hough neighborhood Monday afternoon, and no one was hurt or displaced. Firefighters were called to a fire at 711 W. 21st St. around 2:40 p.m. The Vancouver Fire Department said the first crews at the scene saw flames showing from the rear of a small, one-story, single-family house.

Fire Company in Palmyra (PA) Celebrates Grand Opening of New Fire Station

A fire company in Palmyra celebrated the grand opening its new fire station on Sunday. Citizen's Fire Company No. 1 in North Londonderry Township invited the public to be there for the special dedication ceremony.
Organizers say the event shows people what it takes to be a firefighter and gives locals insight on how the central location of the new fire house will keep the community safer.

"Without the support of the government and the residents that we serve, the project could not have been started and definitely could not have been completed," said David Dugan, fire chief at Citizens Fire Company No. 1.

Edmonton's (Canada) 30th Fire Station Opens

On Saturday, community members and officials celebrated the opening of Edmonton Fire Rescue Services' 30th fire station in the city. "Pilot Sound fire station is an important addition to the community and will be integral to protecting the life, property and environment of not just this community, but the entire city," Fire Chief Ken Block said.
Construction of the fire station started in the fall of 2015. The city contributed $3.1 million to the project, with the province providing the remaining $9.3 million through its Municipal Sustainability Initiative (MSI).

The 13,000-square-foot station includes living space for firefighters as well as a vented turnout gear room to store contaminated bunker gear.
