Medical call turns violent, man pulls gun on Spokane firefighters

Firefighters risk their lives on a daily basis to save others: Walking through burning buildings, performing water rescues, and fighting brush fires. But, what was at first a normal medical call last week turned into a very dangerous situation for Spokane firefighters. "The person went from a normal status like you and I talking here to extremely violent," said Spokane Fire Chief Schaeffer.

Firefighters appreciate construction crews help contain Mead brush fire on Newport Highway

As soon as a fire breaks out, firefighters rush to the scene. But something interesting happened at the fire in Mead along Newport Highway on Tuesday. A group of construction workers who were at a site just across the road saw the smoke and flames, hopped in their water tanker, and immediately drove across the street.

Fire destroys Mount Vernon building at closed business

A fire Wednesday afternoon destroyed a building at the closed Summersun Nursery at 4100 E. College Way. Mount Vernon Fire Department Battalion Chief Mark Malone said the fire was reported at 3:26 p.m. and the first fire trucks arrived at 3:31 p.m. The building was not in use and had no power running to it.

CFD Fire Truck Struck by Bullet, No Injuries Reported

A Chicago Fire Department fire truck was struck by a bullet early Thursday when someone opened fire following an argument about a crash in the South Shore neighborhood. Fire crews responded at 2:23 a.m. to a two-car crash at the intersection of 79th Street and Yates Boulevard when an argument broke out between the parties involved, according to Chicago police.

A male, who was called to the scene by someone involved in the crash, grabbed a handgun from his vehicle and fired shots into a crowd, police said. One of the rounds damaged the windshield of a responding firetruck. No one was injured.

Proctorville Gets New Pumper Truck

PROCTORVILLE, Ohio - Union Township trustees have agreed to pay for a new pumper truck for the village of Proctorville. The township agreed to take out a five-year loan at 2.25 percent to pay for the new fire truck that went into service earlier this month.

The trustees selected a bid by Advantech Service and Parts of Midvale, Ohio, for $237,868, for the 1,000-gallon pumper truck, said Gary Whitley, assistant chief of the Proctorville Community Volunteer Fire Department.
